Scamming
There has been a rise in door step and cyber crime related to the Coronavirus, and Fife Council have drawn our attention to the National Trading Standards website particularly aimed at older and vulnerable people. Click the ‘Start’ button on their website for a short slideshow on how to identify and handle scams. Scamming advice
Ticks
As if the coronavirus pandemic was not enough to deal with, the wooded areas and the areas with long grass around Drumoig are known to have ticks, and anyone walking through these areas should always check themselves and their pets afterwards. Walking in Tentsmuir can be particularly prone to catching them, and with many more people walking in the surrounding areas it is best to familiarise yourself with how to recognise and deal with them.
Bites from infected ticks can cause Lyme disease, and although only about 10% of ticks are infected, untreated bites from infected ticks can be dangerous.
Ticks become active at temperatures above 8˚C. Protect yourself by covering your skin, applying a repellent, and always carry tools for safe and quick tick removal should any attach themselves to you.
Further details about ticks, their effects and the potential for Lyme disease, and how to deal with them can be found at Lyme Disease Action
or on the NHS website NHS Conditions - Lyme Disease
